The Marzocchi Super Monster

The Super Monster is the 300 mm travel model of Marzocchi’s Monster family, with 40 mm stanchions and two crowns. It is often called “Super Monster T”. In our factory documents it appears in the 2003 Monster series owner’s manual and in the 2004 parts list “Super Monster 300”.

The parts lists keep it apart from the Monster T and the Monster T2 of the same years; the Monster T2 has non-adjustable Ø 20 mm pumping elements instead of adjustable cartridges.

From the 2003 owner’s manual:

• The Super Monster, like the Monster Triple, has Ø 26 mm cartridges in both legs with external rebound and compression adjustment.
• Coil springs, damping in an open oil bath, two teflon-coated guide bushings per leg, a dual-lip oil seal and a dust seal at the top of each slider.
• 20 mm aluminium axle, disc brake mount for an 8 inch rotor (DH international standard post mount).

The exploded drawing and the parts list on this page belong to the 2004 Super Monster 300. The 2003 Monster series owner’s manual is on Forks documentation.

Service notes

The 2003 owner’s manual specifies SAE 7.5 oil. The same manual explains that the open bath reduces the service frequency compared with a sealed cartridge, because the oil lubricates and cools all sliding parts.

Which seal kit fits

The 2004 Super Monster 300 parts list names oil seal 528053, dust seal 533281 and kit 850691, the same seals as the Monster T. This is our Seal Kit 40 mm Monster.
