The Marzocchi Monster T

The Monster T is Marzocchi’s dual-crown fork with 40 mm stanchions. The 2001 data sheet calls it a “double plate fork specifically designed for Downhill use”, damped by hydraulic cartridges and sprung by coil springs, with spring preload and rebound adjusted from the top of the legs. Parts lists named “Monster T” exist for 1999 to 2006.

Marzocchi used several names in this family, and they are not interchangeable. The parts lists name Monster T, Monster T2, Monster (2001, 2002, 2006), Monster200 / Monster300 (2004) and Super Monster 300 (2004). The 2003 owner’s manual names the 2003 range Monster T2, Monster Triple and Super Monster. The Super Monster has its own page.

Damping and axle, as Marzocchi describes them

• 2001 Monster T: a rebound damping cartridge inside each leg, coil springs, external top adjusters for preload and rebound, motorcycle-style drop-outs; a 20 mm wheel shaft was available on request.
• 2003 range (owner’s manual): the Monster T2 has Ø 20 mm non-adjustable SSV pumping elements; the Monster Triple and the Super Monster have Ø 26 mm cartridges with external rebound and compression adjustment. All run in an open oil bath, with a 20 mm aluminium axle.
• 2006 Monster: HSCV cartridges with external rebound and compression adjustment and compression adjustment at the end of travel, 200 mm travel, 20 mm axle.

Service notes

• The 2001 Monster T data sheet gives 380 cc of oil per leg, type EBH 16, SAE 7.5.
• The 2003 owner’s manual and the 2006 Monster technical instructions specify SAE 7.5 oil; the 2006 manual gives the quantity in its oil level table.

Which seal kit fits

Every Monster T, Monster T2 and Monster parts list from 1999 to 2006 names oil seal 528053 and dust seal 533281 (from 2002 also kit 850691). This is our Seal Kit 40 mm Monster.
