One Box, Many Riders:The Dr-Zocchi Collection Order

Shipping vintage Marzocchi fork parts internationally can cost more than the parts themselves. Collection Orders solve this by grouping buyers into one shared shipment — lower cost, less packaging waste, support from a local Marzocchi fan and parts that actually reach the people who need them.

One Box, Many Riders:
The Dr-Zocchi Collection Order

There is a peculiar problem with keeping old bicycles alive. The parts are rare, the knowledge to fit them is rarer, and by the time you find a small part for your 1997 Marzocchi Bomber like a simple red top knob you need, the postage to send it from Germany to the UK might cost more than the part itself.

I am explaining my self-developed shop feature for International Collection Orders. We can run such an order for every country — it needs a local organizer who receives all orders in one shipment and handles local distribution.

If you are a Marzocchi fan and would like to do it for your country, please get in contact. There is no risk and no costs for you!

This is not a hypothetical. Standard international shipping for a small parcel up to 2kg today sits between €15 and €27 depending on the destination. The economics do not work here as it is not about mass productions which results in cheap parts and sending small parts for a business is all the same for 2kg packages. Also spare parts from low quantity like 25 or 50 pcs have it's price.

As I have built my own shop in the last months including a huge backend to fit all my needs, during the current collection order for Australia (June - August 2026) I developed the Collection Order System Shop Extension to address this problems (-> https://new.dr-zocchi.com).

What a Collection Order Is

The intention of a Collection Order is to do a shared shipment. Buyers from the same country place their orders individually, and once enough orders have accumulated, they go out together in a single parcel instead of separately. Dr-Zocchi usually takes the international shipping costs for the big box.

Because one box going to the UK costs the same to send whether it holds one seal kit or twenty, the shipping cost per buyer drops substantially. Buyers get their parts at a minimum fee for handling & packing (current AUS fee is 1,83€) plus the local shipping costs.

The Local Coordinator

Behind every Collection Order is a local coordinator — a resident of the destination country who receives the consolidated parcel from Dr-Zocchi and handles distribution to buyers in their area. In the best case this is a Marzocchi fan or expert already active in local forums and community groups, someone the community knows and trusts. Strong Marzocchi knowledge is a welcome bonus but it is not a requirement. The essential job is coordinating the local shipping: one parcel in, the right parts out to the right people. The coordinator works in trust, helps with local communication, and makes the whole system possible at the last mile.

For the current Collection Order to Australia the local contact and supporter is Rob Harris, a real Marzocchi Maniac, well known in Marzocchi groups on Facebook helping out with great knowledge all day long. Thank you, Rob!

How It Works for You

When you order parts through Dr-Zocchi, the shop identifies you as a registered buyer from AUS with your valid login, taking part in the Collection Order. Of course if you need your parts fast, you can have a standard shipping. There is no membership, no subscription, and no minimum order size.

If you join a Collection Order:

  • the shop will show discounted AUD prices for all Australian users
  • create a cart and/or add products to a wishlist — you can convert a wishlist into a cart
  • your parts are reserved and invoiced at the time of order
  • you do a standard payment in the shop — payment is made upfront, so the parts are yours
  • when enough buyers in your country have joined the time frame, the parcel ships
  • you pay a small fee for the handling which will be added automatically
  • your invoice shows your local currency, so there are no surprises at checkout
  • you can view your orders in your account
  • if being unsure, talk to the local organiser — check the local shipping costs with them
  • open a ticket in Dr-Zocchi's ticket system to get in contact, ask questions, or discuss parts which are not in the shop

Why Vintage Parts Are Especially Expensive to Ship

Most spare parts businesses handle current models. A Marzocchi seal kit from 1997 is not current. It is a low-volume item for a narrow audience of people who still ride — and repair — equipment that the industry stopped supporting decades ago.

That means small order quantities, unpredictable demand, and buyers spread across every country in Europe and beyond. Each individual order is a separate logistics problem. And logistics companies charge for that problem.

For new, mass-market parts, shipping cost is a small percentage of the item value. For a part costing a few €€€ going to Sweden, it is not. Collection Orders shift this equation by treating a group of individual orders as a single logistics unit.

The Sustainability Angle

Fewer shipments is not just cheaper — it is better.

Parcel logistics is one of the more energy-intensive parts of e-commerce. Each individual shipment means its own packaging, its own label, its own route, its own flight. Consolidating six UK orders into one parcel does not cut the carbon footprint by a sixth, but it does reduce it meaningfully: less packaging material, fewer vehicle movements, fewer handoffs.

For a shop that deals in vintage parts — parts that extend the life of hardware already built, already transported, already in circulation — this fits the broader philosophy. Keeping a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 running for another decade is itself a form of sustainability. Sending its parts in shared shipments is the logical extension of that.

Keeping Marzocchi Forks on the Road

The 1990s and early 2000s produced some of the most capable and characterful mountain bike suspension ever made. Marzocchi's forks from that era — the Bomber series, the Z1, the Super Monster T, the Shiver DC — appear on bikes that are still ridden hard today, three decades after they left the factory.

These forks need maintenance. Seals dry out, oil degrades, bushings wear. The parts are finite. When a part becomes impossible to source, the fork becomes a display piece — and the bike it was on gets retired earlier than it should.

Dr-Zocchi stocks parts for Marzocchi forks going back to 1990: seal kits, service kits, spring kits, axle bolts, crowns, bushings. Parts lists for over 500 individual fork models are available on the site, covering the full range of what Marzocchi produced in the suspension fork era.

Furthermore we can use the Document Collection, Support, great communities happy to help (e.g. on Facebook) and mechanics in all countries doing services.

The goal is straightforward: the parts should reach the people who need them, at a cost that makes sending for one or two small items worthwhile. Collection Orders are the mechanism that makes that possible internationally.

Costs and Payment

Payment is processed at the time of order, before the Collection Order ships. This reserves your parts and confirms your place in the window.

A few things to know:

  • Parts prices are discounted in Collection order
  • your shipping rate is about local shipping costs only
  • Your invoice is shown in your local currency using a fixed exchange rate for that window
  • No risk at all

If a Collection Order window does not fill within a reasonable time, orders are either held for the next window or shipped individually at the standard rate — you are notified and can choose.

A Note on Timing

Collection Orders take longer than standard shipping. That is the trade-off. If you need a part urgently — a fork service before a race, a replacement seal for a trip next week — standard shipping is available and will get parts to you faster.

For planned maintenance, season preparation, or parts you want to have on hand, Collection Orders are usually the right choice. Most windows fill within a few weeks for popular destinations.

The shop shows available Collection Order windows when you check out. If there is no active window for your country, you can either wait for the next one to open or ship immediately.
