Cross-Country / Trail 2003–2008 Travel: 85–120mm 30mm stanchions

The Marzocchi MX family

MX Comp and MX Pro were Marzocchi’s 30 mm cross-country and trail forks from 2003 to 2008, with 85, 105 or 120 mm of travel. They are light single-crown forks for XC and trail riding — not downhill forks.

They followed the 2002 MXC and MXR forks (30 mm, 80 / 100 mm), which have their own parts lists. The 1991 MX 100 is an unrelated early fork (24 mm on the seal chart).

2003 and 2004 also had 29” versions (MX Comp Coil, Comp ETA and Pro ETA) built for Trek. All MX models have 30 mm stanchions.

How they differ, from Marzocchi’s technical instructions:

  • 2006 MX Comp: air spring in both legs, SSV damping with internal rebound adjustment.
  • 2005 MX Pro Coil: coil springs with air preload, SSVF damping with external rebound adjustment.
  • 2006 MX Pro SL: air spring, TST cartridge.
  • ETA locks the fork low for climbing; TAS changes travel (100–120 mm).

Which seal kit fits my MX?

All MX Comp and MX Pro models from 2003 to 2008 take the 30 mm m-arch kit — Seal Kit – 30mm m-arch (DZ-SK-30M). Every MX parts list and seal-chart line we have points to it; several years (2003 Comp + ETA, 2004 Pro Air and Pro + ETA, 2005 Comp Air, 2006 Pro SL and Pro + ETA) are confirmed by both.

Oil volumes from Marzocchi documents

All MX forks use SAE 7.5 oil (Marzocchi 550013):

  • 2005 MX Comp Coil (85 / 105 / 120): 130 cc right, 130 cc left.
  • 2006 MX Comp (85 / 105 / 120): 135 cc right, 135 cc left.
  • 2005 MX Pro + ETA (85 / 105 / 120): 135 cc per leg.
  • 2006 MX Pro SL 105: 40 cc right (TST cartridge leg), 145 cc left.
