The Marzocchi 888

The 888 is Marzocchi’s dual-crown downhill fork. It first appears in the parts lists in 2004 and stayed in the range until 2015. This page covers the models from 2004 to 2009, the years for which we hold the factory parts lists, exploded drawings and technical instructions.

All 888 forks from 2004 to 2007 use 35 mm stanchions. From 2008 most models moved to 38 mm stanchions; the 888 RV kept 35 mm and says so in its name (“888 RV 35mm”). The Marzocchi technical instructions for 2005 and 2006 describe the fork as “dual-crown fork with ø 35mm legs”, travel 170 mm or 200 mm, with a 20 mm through-axle (“motocross type wheel axle support”). The 2008 888 RCV instructions give ø 38 mm legs, 200 mm travel and a ø 20 mm through-axle.

There are no Marzocchi parts lists after 2007 in our archive; for 2008 and 2009 the models come from the exploded drawings and the seal chart.

Damping, as Marzocchi describes it

• 2005 888 R: right leg HSCV cartridge with external rebound adjustment, left leg non-adjustable SSVF pumping element.
• 2005 888 RC: HSCV cartridge in the left leg with external compression adjustment at the end of travel.
• 2005 888 VF: non-adjustable SSVF pumping elements in both legs.
• 2006 888 RC2: right leg RC2 cartridge with external rebound and compression adjustment.
• 2006 888 RC2X: RC2 cartridge right, X cartridge left with compression adjustment at the end of travel.
• 2006 888 VF2: SSVF pumping element with external rebound adjustment, compression adjuster on the other leg.
• 2008 888 RCV: CV pumping rod with external compression adjuster, RV pumping element with external rebound adjustment, air preload on both springs.

Exploded drawing and parts list

The exploded drawing and the parts list on this page belong to the 2005 888 RC 170. Every other year and model has its own drawing and parts list in the factory documents below and on Forks documentation. Always compare the drawing number of your part with the drawing of your own year, because cartridges, crowns and springs changed from year to year.

Service notes

The Marzocchi technical instructions of 2005 to 2008 all specify SAE 7.5 oil (Marzocchi 550013) and recommend changing the oil at least every 100 hours. The oil quantity is set per leg and per model in the oil level table of each instruction manual; use the table of your own model and travel. The 2005 and 2006 manuals also state that the hydraulic cartridge of the 888 R and RC2 is sealed and cannot be overhauled, only replaced.

Which seal kit fits

• 2004–2007 (35 mm): the parts lists name oil seal 528034, dust seal 533167 and kit 850716. This is our Seal Kit 35 mm.
• 2008–2009 RC3, RCV, ATA (38 mm): our Seal Kit 38 mm, according to the seal chart.
• 2008–2009 888 RV 35mm: the Seal Kit 35 mm, according to the seal chart.

For 2008 and later there is no parts list to confirm the seal numbers. If you are unsure, send us the model name printed on your fork.
