All-Mountain / Freeride 2008–2016 Travel: 120–170mm 35mm stanchions

The Marzocchi 55

The 55 is Marzocchi’s single-crown all-mountain and freeride fork of the late 2000s. It arrived with model year 2008 and stayed in the range until 2016. Every 55 uses 35 mm stanchions. It is a single-crown fork — the dual-crown downhill forks of the same era are the 888 and the 66.

Our archive has no Marzocchi parts lists after 2007, so the data below comes from the 2008 range poster, the exploded drawings in our archive and Marzocchi’s seal chart.

From the 2008 poster: the 55 TST2, ETA, ATA and ATA2 have 35 mm aluminium stanchions, a 6” post mount for discs up to 8” and Marzocchi’s new QR axle. On the 55, ATA, ETA and Switch TA are travel-adjust systems (Air Travel Adjust, Extension Travel Adjust, Switch Travel Adjust 160 > 120 mm). QR and TA used for the axle are axle options, not models.

Which seal kit fits my 55?

All 55 models, 2008 to 2016, take the 35 mm kit on Marzocchi’s seal chart — Seal Kit - 35mm (DZ-SK-35). Air seals and cartridge seals are separate parts; check the exploded drawing of your year.

Known problems of the 2008 55 ATA

The first ATA forks had a mixed reputation. The Marzocchi Workshop lists the issues and the factory fixes: plug units working loose (thread lock, 20 Nm), air passing between the PAR and main chamber (charge PAR first; updated O-ring kit 8501267/C), the ATA adjuster turning by itself (revised top cap), bushing play (updated bushings) and the ratcheting axle (later axle, backward compatible). Marzocchi’s own last resort was a coil conversion — both are linked under Tips.

Service notes

Marzocchi’s manuals for the 55 years are the general “Bomber Suspension Owner’s Manual” (2008, 2009, 2010) in the fork documentation library; oil quantities per leg are not printed there. Forks from the 2010 season have a foam ring under each dust seal that should be soaked in fork oil when you service the lowers.
